Case study Member association

Venture Capital Association of Alberta

Hired to deliver a conference. Stayed to rebuild the brand, simplify the communications, and ship a website that matches where the organization is going.

PHASE ONEThe conference

Brought in to deliver an event, on the floor as well as behind it.

The first engagement was the annual conference. Not advising on it from a distance, but producing the collateral, working the room, and running AV alongside the event team.

All marketing collateral

Every piece the conference needed, produced end to end and consistent across print, screen, and social.

Event support

Working the event itself rather than handing over a plan and stepping back.

Hands-on attendee engagement

In the room with delegates, not stationed at a table waiting to be asked.

AV, alongside the event team

Managed the AV in partnership with their team, so nothing fell between the two of us.

Delivering the conference surfaced the real problem. The brand and the communications around it were not keeping up with the organization.

So the engagement continued past the event, into the foundations.

PHASE TWOBrand, communications, and website

Rebuilding the foundations, then handing them over.

01

Brand standards

Developed brand standards from the ground up, so every piece the association produces looks like it came from the same organization. The point was not a document for its own sake. It was giving staff and suppliers something to work from without having to ask.

02

Simplified communications

Reworked their communications down to a simplified standard. Fewer formats, clearer language, and a consistent approach their team could actually maintain between engagements rather than a system that only worked while someone senior was watching it.

03

A new website

Built a new site, including all copy, that reflects who the association is and where it is going. Not a redesign of the old structure, but a rethink of what a member or prospective member needs to find and understand.

What they kept

The engagement ended. The systems did not.

Everything was built to be run by their team, with training to support it. That was the brief from the start, not an afterthought at handover.

All of it delivered on 15 to 20 hours a month, billed hourly. A conference, a brand system, a communications overhaul, and a website, without a full-time salary or an agency retainer behind it.

Brand standards document

Usable by staff and any external supplier without a briefing call.

A simplified comms standard

Fewer moving parts, so it holds up during a busy quarter.

A website they can update

Copy and structure included, built for their team to maintain.

Training to support it

So the standards are understood, not just filed somewhere.
